April Ross
April Ross is only one of the few beach volleyball athletes to win medals multiple times at an Olympics. Alix Klineman has become a brand new Olympian who will be joining the team in Tokyo. Ross's goal is to win her first Olympic gold medal. At 39, this could be Ross' last chance to take home the gold medal at an Olympics. However, she's convinced that top prizes can be achieved. Ross said on NBC Boston that if they are at their absolute best and even play well her team could win a gold medal. It's also going to be the result of luck. Ross was a Californian born in Costa Mesa in 1982. Her family lived in the area along with her parents and younger sister. Ross competed in many sports while attending Newport Harbor High School. Being a pre-athlete she was also a participant in indoor track and volleyball. In her final game she was clearly the standout. In her own biography, during high school she was a volleyball player as an outside setter (middle blocker) and the setter (outside blocker). The results of her efforts were acknowledged when she was named 1999 Gatorade's Circle of Champions National players of the year. In addition, she was awarded the 2000 Orange County Athlete of the year award for volleyball. Ross has been working with Klineman from 2017 but her beach game had been established long before that. She actually won multiple major tournaments using two partners, among them a volleyball icon. Jennifer Kessy coached her from 2007 through 2013. Together, Kessy Ross was a force on the international circuit winning the world championship in 2009. This duo went on to win a silver in the 2012 Olympic Games at London. Misty Maytreanor's legendary team and Kerri Jennings were the winners of gold. Ross Jennings was Walsh Jennings partner in fate after Maytreanor's retirement. They took home the bronze medal in beach volleyball during the Rio Olympics 2016. Ross played for the Trojans of USC during her college days, prior to becoming a professional. Ross had an impressive run through the NCAA tournament. When she was a freshman at the school in 2000 she played her way to Pac-10 and NCAA The Freshman of the Year awards and was an All-American. She was also one of the key players for helping the Trojans reach the Final Four. The Trojans suffered a significant personal loss during her sophomore year, but was still successful in achieving the All-American distinction. During her final two seasons with the Trojans' program the team was led to victory by winning the national title in consecutive years. She was a great volleyball player and won the Honda Sports Award in 2003-04 as the most outstanding female volleyball player at the college level. Ross studied at USC in International Relations. Sadly, Ross mother Margie was not able to witness her daughter ascend to the very top of beach volleyball superstardom. Ross suffered the loss of her mother to breast cancer in the year 2001. Ross was then a sophomore. She has kept her mother in her his heart. And Margie remains a source of inspiration to her on the beach as well as in everyday the world of.
